Amazon has reorganised its Wondery podcast studio, cutting around 110 roles, including CEO Jen Sargent, and moved its narrative storytelling shows (like Dr. Death and Business Wars) into its Audible team.
Its creator-led shows, such as New Heights, Mind the Game, and Armchair Expert, have been consolidated under a new Amazon “Creator Services” division designed to support talent-led monetisable formats and large sponsorship partnerships.
As video podcasting has grown in popularity, we have learned that creator-led, video-integrated shows have different audience needs and require distinct discovery, growth, and monetization strategies,
Steve Boom – Amazon VP for Audio, Twitch, and Games.
Why the Pivot Matters
The reorganisation is driven by a shift in content consumption. Video-forward podcasts and personality-driven formats are outperforming scripted narratives.
Amazon aims to help creators build their brand IP across platforms, streamline ad deals, and boost reach through multi-format monetisation.
What Talent Managers Should Do
- Position hosts as multi-platform creators: Identify podcast talent comfortable in audio, video, and social media.
- Build cross-channel rights in contracts: Include clauses for video versions, social repurposing, and ad partnerships across platforms.
- Pitch sponsorships strategically: Work with sponsors willing to execute bespoke multi-format partnerships that match creator brand identity.
This move marks a broader transformation of the creator economy.
Podcasters are now expected to operate like personal media businesses, and talent managers will play a critical role guiding the transition.
