Working in talent management can feel like you are juggling fire while riding a rollercoaster in a pair of stilettos. Whether you’re managing high-profile personalities, navigating contracts, or holding space for emotional meltdowns and last-minute crises, the pressure is relentless and lets face it, can feel personal.
You’re not just managing careers. You’re managing humans. Their energy, their nervous systems, their dreams, and their breaking points. And everything is energy and energy is transferred – this might sound a bit woowoo but hear me out….
While we continue to obsess over time management, communication styles, leadership strategy, or the latest AI platform for productivity, we overlook one of the most accessible, powerful, and transformative tools available to us (and to them): breathwork.
Yes, breathing. That thing you do around 22,000 times a day unconsciously while scrolling through contracts or mentally composing 17 emails at once.
I’m talking about conscious, intentional, and nervous-system-regulating breathwork -something I teach in corporate settings, private coaching, and group sessions across industries, and which I believe every talent manager needs in their toolkit.
Why it works (especially for talent managers)
Talent managers operate in high-stakes environments where emotions run high and demands are non-stop. You’re often the anchor for your clients, the voice of reason in chaos, and the strategist behind the scenes. You are regulating everyone around you but who’s regulating you?
Breathwork is one of the fastest ways to:
- Discharge stress before it builds up and shows up as burnout, irritability, or decision fatigue
- Enhance clarity and focus—vital when you’re moving from call to call or trying to negotiate with a client in emotional overload
- Build emotional resilience, so you’re not internalising the anxiety, fear, or pressure your client is projecting
- Increase your presence—because in this industry, your energy is your currency
What many people don’t realise is decisions made from a fragmented nervous system are often reactive, fear-driven, and disconnected from clarity, logic, and long-term vision. Maybe take a moment to reflect on a bad decisions you made recently, how did you feel at the time and what was going on around you?
What is Breathwork (and why it’s different from meditation)
If meditation feels too “still” or woo woo or difficult to drop into, breathwork is your bridge.
Breathwork is an active, body-based practice that bypasses the overthinking mind and works directly with the nervous system and subconscious.
There are many styles, but I work primarily with Conscious Connected Breathwork—a powerful technique that uses a circular breathing pattern to access deeper emotional layers, shift energy, and restore balance.
Even a short, 3-minute practice can change your state. And over time, breathwork builds capacity—for stress, for success, for staying grounded in uncertainty. It is a quick fix for your nervous system.
Breathwork in action: how I use it with clients
I’ve guided CEOs before high-stakes meetings, helped creatives shake off performance anxiety, and supported leaders through life transitions. Many of my private clients use breathwork to:
- Reconnect with intuition before making decisions
- Shake off the emotional residue of a tough conversation
- Restore vitality after long periods of output
- Move through self-doubt or overwhelm in a single session
I recently had a client – a high-achieving entrepreneur balancing a business launch and a breakup – say to me, “Breathwork gave me space to breathe when everything felt like it was closing in. It felt like therapy, energy work, and a nervous system reset all in one.”
This is the power of a practice that doesn’t require tech, a change of clothes, or even a yoga mat—just your breath, and your willingness to simply stop and breathe!

A few tools for the Talent Manager’s Toolkit
Here’s how to start integrating breathwork into your routine:
- 3-minute Reset: In between calls, try box breathing (inhale for 4, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4). It helps calm your system fast.
- Pre-pitch Power Boost: Try 1–2 minutes of conscious connected breathing to activate your energy and focus before a big moment.
- End-of-Day Discharge: Let go of the emotional residue with a 10-minute guided breathwork journey.
To explore short and sweet breathwork practices you can join my 7 day free breathwork reset here https://naomibuff.thrivecart.com/7-day-breath-reset-free-challenge
You have to breathe it to believe it as I always say, so start now with just 3 minutes a day.
