Building the Next Generation of Creator Economy Talent: Why Apprenticeships Are the Missing Piece

Another Avenue has launched a new route into content and social media careers, with more than 40 pre-vetted candidates ready to be matched with UK employers.

The creator economy has changed the way businesses market themselves. Content, social media, video, podcasts and creator-led campaigns are now central to how brands reach their audiences.

But as demand for these skills grows, so does a familiar challenge: where does the next generation of talent come from?

This is a question The Talent Times raised recently and has seemingly been answered by training provider agency, Another Avenue, who have launched a Level 3 Content Creator Apprenticeship Programme as part of its apprenticeship scheme. The agency was launched in 2022 with a focus on developing digital skills and creating pathways into the industries where businesses need talent most. Its new apprenticeship offering creates a route into employment specifically designed around the needs of the modern creator economy.

Their timing could hardly be more relevant.

The latest ONS figures show that more than 1 million 16–24-year-olds in the UK are not in education, employment or training, representing 13.5% of the age group. That figure has increased by 89,000 compared with the previous year.

Apprenticeships won’t solve the issue of young people becoming NEET on their own. But they can provide something increasingly important: a direct route into employment, where people develop skills by doing the job rather than simply preparing for it.

For businesses operating in content and social media, that model can be particularly powerful. Another Avenue’s Content Creator Apprenticeship is designed around the reality of how modern content teams work. Apprentices spend four days a week working within their employer, creating content, supporting social media, working on video and contributing to real projects.

One day is dedicated to structured online training. The programme is delivered entirely online and is available to businesses nationwide.

The team has also taken a different approach to the traditional apprenticeship recruitment process. Through its connection with parent company Fearless Adventures, Another Avenue has built a dedicated talent pool of emerging creators across the UK. Candidates are pre-vetted through a culture assessment and then asked to create a 60-second introduction video before being presented to potential employers.

There is also a compelling argument for employers. As businesses have the opportunity to develop emerging talent around their culture, brand and audience while gaining access to a generation that understands how people consume content today.

Companies working across content, social media, marketing, creator management, YouTube, podcasting and related industries can now access pre-vetted candidates through the Programme. There are currently 40+ candidates ready for employer matching, with upcoming cohorts beginning 7th September 25th August and 13th October.

For businesses considering their next content hire, the question may not be whether there is enough talent out there. It may be whether they’re willing to give the next generation their first opportunity.
