New BBC Sounds Podcast to Explore the Real Stories Behind Celebrity Headlines

Hosted by Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty, this new series investigates the intersection of fame, scandal, and misinformation in today’s social media-driven world.

BBC Sounds has announced the launch of Fame Under Fire, a new podcast hosted by journalist Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty – best known for her work on the investigative podcast Diddy on Trial.

“What Is ‘Fame Under Fire’?”

Produced by the BBC’s Long Form Audio team in Salford, this new series will examine the most viral celebrity headlines, from influencers and athletes to musicians, politicians, and royalty.

Each week, Fame Under Fire will dissect the stories lighting up social media and explore the darker sides of digital fame – from misinformation and AI-generated content to the rise of unqualified “newsfluencers.”

With expert guests and deep-dive reporting, Anoushka aims to separate fact from fiction in a world where truth is often the first casualty of virality.

“The Diddy case was just the beginning,” said Anoushka. “We got thousands of messages asking us to dig into other powerful figures. Fame Under Fire will be where we investigate these stories – not just the headlines, but the systems and scandals behind them.”

Anoushka brings a wealth of experience to the podcast, having worked on programmes like Witness History, The Global Story, and Degrees of Love, which was a New York Radio Award finalist.

Her sharp commentary and strong rapport with digital audiences make her a natural fit to lead conversations in this fast-evolving space.

Rhian Roberts, BBC Commissioner for Podcasts & Formats, commented: “Anoushka brings an authentic love and knowledge of this social media-driven space. Fame Under Fire will be the podcast where listeners get the best intel on the stories dominating their feeds.”

When & Where to Listen

The first episode drops on 24th of July and will be available via BBC Sounds, BBC iPlayer, YouTube, and all major podcast platforms.

For those working in talent management and digital media, the podcast is a reminder of how quickly narratives can evolve – and the growing need for transparent, accountable storytelling in the creator economy.
